Scriptures for Today

Here are some verses that God has been using in my life lately. . .

Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel, – Philippians 1:27

Do all things without grumbling… Continue reading

A Picture of Hope

I went on a mother-daughter outing with my mom yesterday to the National Craft Expo in Baltimore. It was a fun day with plenty of great craft vendors to visit. While much of it was beautiful work and all of it was highly creative and highly expensive, most of it was well out of our price range! But it… Continue reading

I’ve Claimed It!

Have you ever heard the old Baptist mantra “name it and claim it”? I grew up in a very fundamental Baptist church and often heard that phrase. Basically, the idea is to name a portion of Scripture and claim the truth of it as a promise from God. At the time, I thought this was a bit ridiculous, not because of the idea so much, but because of what they… Continue reading

Random Life Updates

Hello, my dear readers! Long time no post. :-)   Here’s what been going on . . .

• HEALTH UPDATE

Thanks for all your prayers. I really appreciate them. I have been to a new doctor and had quite a bit of blood work done. There was lots of good news and I am happy to report that my blood sugar is still going down steadily and my… Continue reading

New York City Photos

I am so bummed that I couldn’t post more from New York. I had a difficult time finding free Wi-Fi. It seemed that when I could find a free connection, we had somewhere to be and I didn’t have time to sit down and post.

I’ll put the highlights of the trip and my thoughts about turning 40 a little later this week. For now, you can view my… Continue reading

Hello from NYC!!

Our first day in New York was packed! I must first report that my mom was the one to walk out of the Kate Spade store with a purse and not me. I am not surprised that after saving for a year and finally walking into the store with money to spend, I would not find anything I liked! But there are plenty of handbag stores in this town so… Continue reading

NYC Here I Come!

Tomorrow morning – way too early! – I’ll be heading to NYC to celebrate my 40th birthday. (I’ll pause for a moment because this is the place where you say, “you don’t look 40 at all!”) Thanks! I don’t act 40, either!

Here’s a brief look at my itinerary:

Thursday – arrive in NYC 10:00 am, check luggage, head to SoHo to shop! I’ve been saving my change… Continue reading

The Sickbed Schoolroom: What I learned while down and out.

I started with a cold in the last days of September and was sick with respiratory illnesses until Christmas. I won’t go into all the details, but the time included two bouts of bronchitis, one case of bacterial pneumonia, a sinus infection, and a virus. I have had two rounds of steroids, four ten-day doses of antibiotics, and loads of cough syrup with codeine. I had a two week period… Continue reading

Good Morning, 2010!

I am so glad 2009 is behind me! These last few months have been brutal and I’m looking forward to the mental clarity that comes with a fresh start in the new year. Every January 1st feels like a do-over, giving me the chance to fix everything I didn’t like about the year before.

I feel I learned a lot in 2009 and experienced a lot of growth in… Continue reading

I’m Alive . . .

Bet you were wondering, huh?

After two bouts with bronchitis, bacterial pneumonia, and a sinus-infection type of virus, I’m thinking the worst is over and I just might make it to blog another day! It’s been rough since October 14th, but blue skies are ahead, I can just tell. I am feeling better, more like myself and getting to the place where I can actually do more than one… Continue reading

Is October over yet?

So apparently, I never got over my bronchitis. I think that the antibiotic I am normally prescribed is no longer working for me. This is the second time in a row that it’s taken a second antibiotic to get rid of this stuff. On a positive note, I do not have pneumonia. I was starting to worry that I did because the one side of my back was hurting so… Continue reading

Hot or Cold?

I just finished the book “Deeper: Living in the Reality of God’s Love” by Debbie Alsdorf while I was home sick last week. I enjoyed the perspective of this book quite a bit and am glad I finally got around to reading it. (It’s been on my shelf for a few years!)

Toward the back of the book, she has a small list of “in-the-box” self-filled living thoughts that… Continue reading
