I went on a mother-daughter outing with my mom yesterday to the National Craft Expo in Baltimore. It was a fun day with plenty of great craft vendors to visit. While much of it was beautiful work and all of it was highly creative and highly expensive, most of it was well out of our price range! But it was a nice dose of creativity to fuel our own crafts and projects.
In addition it was a nice day downtown and we went to Barnes and Noble at the Power Plant so what’s not to love?
One of our favorite booths was a jewelry booth called Mullanium that featured some very unusual pins. The pin shown on the right is one of their designs and it’s now mine, all mine! My mom went back to the booth and surprised me with it!
When I first looked at it, I thought that if jewelry had names, this piece should be called “hope.” I’m not sure at first why I thought that, but it might have something to do with a little Emily Dickinson poem I memorized as a child . . .
“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul
And sings the tune without the words
And never stops – at all.
I thought it especially fitting that this pin – that reminds me of hope – comes at this time of my life. Between turning 40 and the myriad of health issues I’ve been struggling with, there have been some days in the past few months I felt I was losing hope. But God has been faithful and good and hope has flown in again, singing strong even without the words.
Thanks for the pin, mom. And for so much more.
PS – you can view their other pins on the Millanium site here.

ooooo, that’s really pretty–can’t wait to see it in person. Glad to hear that you had a wonderful day
