February Reading Recap

I did a bit of reading in February, although I feel like I spent much of the month in the doctor’s office! I have been reading much more than I was the previous months, so I hope to keep that pace moving up. I have lots of great books I’m eager to get to.

For nonfiction reading in February, I managed to finish four books, two medical books related to some of my heath issues, “Rest” by Keri Wyatt Kent and “The Me I Want to Be” by John Ortberg. I’ve already written my thoughts on “Rest” and I recommend that to anyone struggling with the pace of their life.

“The Me I Want to Be” was a great book and I think most every believer could benefit from it. While there was nothing especially new or earth-shattering in the book, the author has a great writing style and way of saying things that makes you look at them in a fresh way. I enjoyed reading it, was challenged to think about a few areas of my life and encouraged in other ways. You might be hearing more about this book in the future, but for now, if you happen upon a copy, you won’t go wrong in picking it up and trying a chapter or two.

I only read two fiction books this month. I have been re-reading through the Twilight series and finished the last book, “Breaking Dawn,” early in February. Then I read an older young adult book written in the 30’s, called “Heaven to Betsy.” That was a charming book, made fun by seeing how life was in the early 1900’s setting of the book. I found myself very envious of their Sunday Night Lunch routine. I have the next book in that series, but I’m going to read these slowly over time as a treat.

So that was six books in February, which is better than I’ve done in awhile. And I already have one finished for March so I’m on a roll here! I’m currently reading the fiction mystery, Homicide in Hardcover and my nonfiction book in progress is Beth Moore’s newest, So Long, Insecurity. I’m in a mystery mood right now, so I have several paperback cozy mysteries on my nightstand to read this month.

Are there any other cozy mystery fans? I can do a post with my favorite series and some recommendations if anyone wants to hear them.

How about you? What did you read in February? Anything you really enjoyed or would like to warn us to stay away from? :-)  Tell us what you’ve been reading in the comments.

For fiction, I read the 5 book Percy Jackson series in January and February. Monica Ferris has a Needlecraft Cozy mystery series that I like. I just finished the latest one in paperback, Thai Die. They are interesting. For non-fiction, I reread the Lion in the Pit book for the book talk and am now back to working my way through Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts. I started that in December, but took a break for the Lion book.
